Atlanta – (Pictured above) This is the Donald Glover show that Comedy Hype initially reported on, about a year and a half ago and we’re excited that it’s finally here. The show’s premise is two cousins trying to make a way for themselves, in the Atlanta rap scene. Yes, Donald does rap in real life, but on this show, Donald won’t be the rapper. That’ll be interesting to see. Also, being that Atlanta is Glover’s hometown, we’re sure the show will have a personal feel of what Atlanta feels like. This show brings us to Atlanta, without actually being in Atlanta. (September 6th, FX)
Insecure – This show will be the major network debut of the brilliant content creator, Issa Rae. “Insecure” is a show that focuses on the life of Issa’s self-titled character, as she navigates her way through love and life. If you were a fan of Issa’s hit web series, “The Mis-Adventures of Awkward Black Girl”, you’re going to love Issa’s new HBO series, “Insecure”. (October 9th, HBO)
Loosely Exactly Nicole – Nicole Byer has been making her presence known for while now. Nicole’s most notable project was the MTV series, “Girl Code”, where she gave us hilarious advice and comical takes on everyday scenarios. Now, Nicole has her very own show. Not only is Nicole’s brand of comedy hilarious but it’s also refreshing and relatable. “Loosely Exactly Nicole” brings us into the world of Nicole Byer. (September 5th, MTV)
Acting Out – Comedian and actor, Lil Rel is becoming a household name. Not only is Lil Rel a significant part of “The Carmichael Show” cast, but his first stand up special, “RELevent” was also a smash hit. Now, Lil Rel is ready to host his own show. Over the summer, Lil Rel gave Comedy Hype the exclusive scoop on his new show, “Acting Out”. The show is a stand up show where comedians perform jokes, while actors act out the bits on stage behind them. Not only is this a fresh premise, but Lil Rel has an amazing amount of charisma and that’s an essential quality needed to host a show. (Fall, TBA, MTV)
Marlon – This show is loosely based of the life of Marlon Wayans, as he attempts to balance family and an ex-wife simultaneously. The role of Marlon’s ex-wife will be played by Essence Atkins. Marlon and Essence have great chemistry, from what we’ve seen in Marlon’s breakout film, “A Haunted House”. The show was also written by Marlon and partner, Rick Alvarez, who wrote “A Haunted House” together. NBC has yet to announce a solid premiere date, but they assured us that “Marlon” premieres this Fall. The Wayans family is known for making hysterical content, so we’re pretty excited for “Marlon” to premiere. (Fall, TBA, NBC)
