With a pure delivery driven by a style that has roots from the South but can easily be compared to West Coast rhymes, Playya 1000 and the Deeksta are a dynamic duo that you need to know.

Hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Playya 1000 and Deeksta (Darrell) have known each other since high school. But it wasn’t until the moment Playya 1000 (his real name is Fred) realized he couldn’t do the music all by himself, he needed a partner in crime.

Playya 1000 remembers the moment he realized he needed help. “A funny story, I always thought I could do it all rap, DJ, produce and then I met Deeksta. He came to my house and started cutting and scratching and I thought he had to be from New York because he was so much better than me. I was a real studio junky at that time, so Deeks and I made lot songs, but I was the only person rapping on them. So we decided to put an album together as a duo under the name Playya 1000 and the Deeksta. The album did pretty good and we’ve been the dynamic duo ever since.”

Together, this dynamic duo has a powerful arsenal of skills which include: djing, producing, songwriting, singing, and of course, rapping. They split up the responsibilities between them, and Playya 1000 explains, “Now-a-days Deeks has transitioned from DJ to full time producer. He makes most of the music, sings some choruses, and I write the songs and do all of the rapping.” With both of them bringing something unique to the table, the duo is able to write songs that help people get through the daily struggles, and their latest CD Cover Me I’m Going In is filled with music that inspires and speaks to the reality of life.

Off their latest CD, one track that is making quite the buzz is a beautiful song called “Mama.” The track was written by Playya 1000 and he pays homage to his mother. When asked what provoked him to write the song he said,

“It’s funny me and Deeks always say that’s our grammy winning song. In the past I have mentioned the situation about my mom that she passed away when I was 4 years old, but never elaborated any further. I decided I wanted to write a song almost as if I was writing a letter to my Mama, basically letting her know how my life has went up to this point. The twist of the song as that I wrote in a way that I asked her questions as it relates to advice she would have given me at certain periods in my life and I wrote what I thought she might have said. We had a great female singer named “Joelle” bless us with a great performance on the song. She is a great singer. I hope the song reminds everyone that you can still tell a great story in hip hop and be successful.”

The track isn’t the beginning of their success, but it’s a great highlight to add onto a career filled with a handful of accolades worldwide. Playya 1000 and the Deeksta are known worldwide in places such as Japan, Germany, and Australia, and fans have paid $500 or more for their CD’s on EBAY. On a local level, the duo has a powerful 20/20 movement that inspires and empowers the youth via hip-hop motivational performances. This movement is not just in the school, but it’s also close to home. Playya 1000 is a single dad raising 4 children in hopes of giving them a bright future filled with a conscious approach to music.

Playya 1000 and the Deeksta continue to promote their music and are currently working on a new project. If you’d like to be inspired and hear conscious music that speaks to many, then be sure to visit their website playaa1000.com for more information on motivational hip-hop performances.
